So, I’m a home cook. Always have been. I love the challenge of taking foods, combining them, and coming up with new creations that make my friends smile.
Now, the trouble started when I was living with someone. See, he had never lived with anyone
before that cooked. And, I guess you could say he got really, really used to it. Like, the kind of used to it where someone loses their own moderate skills they had before because they are so used to food just showing up at dinner time. So, when I had to up and move to New York for 6 months, he got…shall we say…a little bit whiny. I did the best I could. Before I left I baked breads and made stews that could be frozen. I found him an online grocery delivery service so he wouldn’t have to actually go to the store, and created purchasing lists for him in the program. And yet, within a couple of weeks, I found myself on the phone having the same conversation over and over.
Him: “I’m hungry!”
Me: “So, what’s in the cupboard?”
Him: “x, and y, f, and g”
Me: “ok, well f, g, and x go together. All you really need is some A or B to throw in there, and it’ll be great”
Him: “OK, FINE! I’ll cook.”
So here we go – a creative culinary journey through meals created from stuff that’s already in your cupboards, and things you can pick up at a convenience store.
